NBC newscaster Dylan Dreyer told the public that she and her husband, freelance cameraman Brian Fichera, have decided to split after nearly 13 years of marriage. The 44‑year‑old, who co‑hosts the “Today with Jenna & Friends” segment on NBC’s morning show, opened up about the move on the air in a candid interview with Jenna Bush Hager on Wednesday.
“I appreciate everyone’s comments and opinions,” Dreyer said. “Everybody has their reasons for a separation or divorce. We’ve simply reached a point where we can’t fix what’s broken, or we could, but we chose to move forward differently.”
Dreyer described the decision as freeing: “The love we share remains. We’re no longer husband and wife, but we’re still very much friends.” She added that the breakup makes it easier to be a supportive partner than a spouse, giving each other a bit more grace.
The family’s story is rooted in three young boys. Dreyer and Fichera share sons Cal (8), Ollie (5) and Rusty (4). In the interview she emphasized that the children’s well‑being is the top priority. “First and foremost, the kids have to feel love and be happy,” she told Bush Hager. “They need both a father and a mother. We’re giving them that, even if the dynamic is changed.”
When asked how the kids feel about the change, Dreyer recalled a conversation with her eldest son. “He told me a family is just a group of people who love each other. It doesn’t matter if we’re married or friends. We’re still family.” The interview highlighted that all five members of the family still eat dinner together most nights, showing that the split is about the adults’ relationship, not the family life.
Faith also played a role in Dreyer’s new outlook. She said she feels “comforting” knowing a higher power is guiding her. “I feel okay every day. I come to work, smile, and it’s not fake. I’m with my kids and I’m laughing with Brian. Life still feels good.” This positivity resonated with viewers and demonstrated how Dylan is coping with the transition.
The couple married in 2012 but announced their separation earlier in the year. In a social‑media post from July 18, Dreyer thanked fans for their support and reiterated that they would continue to co‑parent “with nothing but love and respect.” She added that they “began as friends and will remain the closest of friends.”
The story has sparked interest from viewers of the Today show, fans of Dylan, and those who follow daytime television. It also echoes the broader conversation about evolving family structures and the importance of prioritizing children’s well‑being in marital decisions.
For those interested in keeping up with Dylan Dreyer’s updates, she regularly shares moments from her family life on Instagram, offering glimpses into her day‑to‑day routine as a single mother and co‑parent.
In a landscape where personal stories often collide with public platforms, Dylan’s openness offers a blend of transparency and resilience. She reminds us that, while change can be painful, it can also lead to renewed clarity about what truly matters: the love shared among family members, whether that love is expressed through marriage or friendship.
