Remains of missing mom found 18 months after she vanished in ‘suspicious circumstances’
On the morning of December 7, 2025, police in Lincoln, Nebraska, announced that the body of Jerica Hamre, who had been missing for almost a year and a half, had been recovered.
The 30‑year‑old mother of two girls—now 9 and 10—vanished on July 3 of the previous year after failing to pick up her daughters from their grandparents’ home.
Authorities immediately flagged the case as “missing under suspicious circumstances” and launched a vast search covering more than 1,000 square miles of forests, lakes, rivers, and farmland.
The remains were eventually discovered by a farmer preparing a property for sale. While removing a shed in a nearby farm located in Furnas County, north of Oxford, the worker found what investigators confirmed to be Hamre’s body. Police said the corpse had been there for a long time, but the landowners had no connection to the case.
Capt. Ben Miller, head of the Lincoln Police Department, expressed his sympathy to the family and explained that the investigation is proceeding as a homicide. He also mentioned that a person of interest is currently in custody on charges that are “totally unrelated to this case,” assuring the public that the suspect poses no further threat to the community.
Miller declined to disclose the suspect’s identity, the nature of the unrelated charges, or any details suggesting motive or cause of death. The department’s Facebook post echoed the official statement, noting that the outcome “is not what any of us wanted” and that its heart goes out to Hamre’s loved ones.
