A deadly bus‑truck collision on the Hyderabad‑Bijapur road left 20 people dead and many others injured.
The crash happened early on Monday, around 6:30 a.m., near Mirzaguda in Rangareddy district, about 60 km from Hyderabad’s city center.
A TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) bus traveling from Tandur to Hyderabad was hit head‑on by a concrete‑laden tipper truck coming from the opposite direction. The truck’s load of gravel fell into the bus, crushing passengers in the front rows and making the rescue even harder.
Seventeen passengers died on the spot, including 10 women, a 10‑month‑old baby and her mother. The truck driver and the bus driver also lost their lives. There were roughly 70 passengers on board. Several others were wounded and taken to the government hospital in Chevella; three are in critical condition.
Rescue teams used three JCBs to cut through the wreckage and pull out the injured. Witnesses described a harrowing scene of people trapped in rubble pleading for help. Police and emergency responders found it tough to pull out the bodies in the early hours.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow and ordered a prompt response. He told officials to go to the site immediately, give immediate care, and keep him updated. He also directed the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, and District Collector to intensify rescue efforts and move seriously injured passengers to hospitals in Hyderabad. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar similarly ordered relief measures and the best possible medical treatment for the injured.
This tragic accident follows another major road incident in the Telugu states less than ten days ago, when a private bus caught fire after hitting a motorcycle near Kurnool, consuming 20 passengers. The fatalities and injuries highlight urgent concerns about road safety on highways between Hyderabad and surrounding cities.
