J&K govt actively considering regularisation of daily wagers, 800 vacant veterinary/fisheries posts being filled

Srinagar, Nov 1 – The Jammu & Kashmir government is pushing forward two major initiatives that could impact many residents. First, lawmakers say the state is working hard to regularise daily‑wager and casual workers in public jobs. Second, recruitment for 800 veterinary doctor slots is underway, bringing fresh medical support to farmers across the region.
### Regularising daily‑wager workers
A high‑level committee, led by the Chief Secretary of the General Administration Department (GAD), is reviewing every detail – administrative, financial and legal – to turn temporary employees into permanent staff. The Finance Department is also reviewing the cost.
The GAD notes that more than 100,000 such workers have already been registered through an Aadhaar‑based biometric system. This move aims to keep records transparent and avoid duplication. The government says it is committed to a fair, long‑term framework for casual and daily‑rated workers in all departments.
### Expanding veterinary services
In the same assembly session, the Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Department said it has rolled out a network of 800 veterinary centres and dispensaries throughout rural and semi‑urban areas. Although many posts for Veterinary Assistant Surgeons and Livestock Development Officers remain open, hiring has begun to cover the gaps.
Farmers and breeders benefit from several nationally sponsored schemes, including the National Livestock Mission (NLM), Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) and Integrated Sheep Development Scheme (ISDS). Mobile veterinary units are now in remote villages, offering on‑site care, vaccination drives and artificial insemination services.
These steps highlight the Jammu & Kashmir government’s focus on job security for daily‑wager workers and on strengthening livestock health across the state.
