Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Pushes for Better Cancer Treatment Across the State
In a big move to tackle cancer care in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked the Medical Education and Drugs Department to roll out a new policy. This policy aims to deliver full-fledged cancer services to people all over the state, making treatment easier and more accessible.
During a key meeting on Monday, Fadnavis stressed the need for cancer treatment centers at different levels to ensure effective care. He wants every district to have comprehensive cancer treatment services, including diagnosis facilities, day care units for radiotherapy, and chemotherapy options. This step will help patients get the care they need right in their local areas, reducing the hassle of traveling far.
Fadnavis also gave clear orders to speed up the unfinished Sant Tukadoji Maharaj Cancer Hospital in Nagpur. He promised to arrange the necessary funds without delay to get the building ready soon. On top of that, he plans to approach Shri Sai Sansthan for support in building a top-notch cancer hospital in Shirdi’s Sainagar. This could bring state-of-the-art facilities closer to devotees and locals alike.
To make things even smoother, the CM suggested setting up a single cloud command center. This hub would link up the three main types of treatment centers, ensuring needy patients get quick services. Early diagnosis and proven treatment methods are top priorities, especially for those battling cancer.
This initiative builds on earlier efforts. Back in July, Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar announced plans for two new cancer hospitals in Aundh (Pune) and Nashik, plus eight district hospitals statewide. The goal? To handle the growing number of cancer patients and cut down on their costs for pricey private treatments.
Fadnavis revealed that the health department has already pitched a proposal to the Asian Development Bank for Rs 8,000 crore in funding. If approved, this could supercharge Maharashtra’s cancer care network and bring relief to thousands of families.
With cancer cases on the rise in India, these steps show the Maharashtra government’s commitment to affordable and timely healthcare. Stay tuned for updates on how this cancer treatment policy shapes up.
