Virendra Sachdeva, the president of the Delhi BJP, slammed the former Arvind Kejriwal administration for what he calls a “big scam” involving the city’s Mohalla Clinics. He said the clinics were built in cheap, temporary shelters or rented rooms and operated only as half‑day outpatient departments. According to Sachdeva, the clinics served little medical purpose, were run by people who had no medical training, and often lacked doctors and proper diagnostic equipment.
The BJP leader argued that the clinics became a hub for fraud. He said the government used them to register fake patients and to bill the state for nonexistent diagnostics. “We saw the fraud unfold,” he said. “The same phone number was used for multiple fake patients and the money was redirected to private accounts.”
Sachdeva also claimed that Kejriwal shut the clinics down during the pandemic, a move that hurt Delhi’s most vulnerable residents. He said the closure was part of a political strategy to spread “lies” about why the clinics stopped operating.
In contrast, the current BJP government, led by Minister‑for‑Health Rekha Gupta, has opened new facilities called Ayushman Arogya Mandirs on government sites. These centers reportedly have full medical testing labs, licensed doctors, and trained paramedical staff. The BJP says these moves improve the city’s healthcare network and bring real services to the public.
BJP health ministers previously announced the closure of 170 additional Mohalla Clinics, calling the decision a blow to health infrastructure. Sachdeva views the new clinics as a corrective measure to restore Delhi’s healthcare system after Kejriwal’s alleged corruption.
