Viksit Maharashtra: Govt resolves to achieve $1 trillion economy by 2030, $5 trn by 2047

Mumbai, Sep 8: Maharashtra’s government is dreaming big with its Viksit Maharashtra 2047 plan. They aim to turn the state’s economy into a massive $1 trillion powerhouse by 2030 and a whopping $5 trillion giant by 2047. Right now, the economy stands at $550 billion, and the key to this growth? Boosting the manufacturing sector like never before.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the progress of this ambitious Viksit Maharashtra 2047 document on Monday. It covers everything from industries and water resources to energy, education, skill development, social justice, services, IT, finance, health, and tourism. The goal is clear: make Maharashtra a leader in all these areas to hit those huge economic targets.

A top government official at the meeting shared exciting details. “We’re pushing hard on manufacturing because its share in our gross state domestic product (GSDP) is lower than states like Tamil Nadu and Telangana,” the official said. Currently, the industrial GDP is $122 billion, but it could jump to $275 billion by 2029, $550 billion by 2035, and a stunning $1,500 billion by 2047. Exports from industries will also soar—from $66 billion now to $150 billion soon, then $350 billion, and finally $950 billion by 2047. This manufacturing boom could transform Maharashtra’s economy and create jobs for millions.

Energy plans look green and smart too. The government wants 52% of the state’s power to come from renewable sources by 2030. They’ll keep electricity tariffs low for industries to attract more businesses. Plus, every township in Maharashtra will aim for net-zero energy, water, and waste certification under the Viksit Maharashtra 2047 vision.

To support small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the state plans a fully self-sustainable ecosystem. This includes cluster-based financing cells, local IP communication, and quick dispute resolution bodies. They’ll launch a deregulation commission, roll out a new land use policy, and set up statewide land restoration plans for industrial growth.

Businesses will get a tech boost with dynamic QR-coded business passport ledgers. These will track filings, fees, and inspections, plus automate compliance. Service guarantees promise speed: land mutation in just 7 days, building plan approvals in 30 days, and electricity connections in one day. No more red tape holding back progress!

Skill development gets a major focus to bridge income gaps. The government will set up scale clusters in every district to draw upstream and downstream industries. They’ll identify priority regions and sectors for subsidized, open-access research labs. A single-window portal will handle IP, tech transfer, and regulatory clearances. To speed up innovation, they’ll create a global platform linking investors and customers. All this aims to make Maharashtra the research and development capital of India.

CM Fadnavis called the Maharashtra Vision Document 2047 a guiding light, like the Gita, Bible, Quran, or even the Constitution of Development. “Vision sets the direction, so our goals must be clear and firm,” he said. “We can’t let this stay on paper—we need real action. If we follow this vision for the next five years, we’ll achieve a developed Maharashtra by 2047. We’re already on the right track!”

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde agreed, saying the vision paints a clear picture of Maharashtra in 22 years. “It’s a blueprint for the future, keeping people’s needs in mind. Big dreams drive progress, and with strong administration, we can meet everyone’s expectations—especially reaching the last mile of society.”

This Viksit Maharashtra 2047 initiative could redefine the state’s future, focusing on sustainable growth, jobs, and innovation. Stay tuned as these plans unfold!
