Hyderabad, India – The President’s winter retreat, Rashtrapati Nilayam in Secunderabad, hosted a “Cyclothon‑Pedal for Planet” on Sunday, inviting the public to celebrate environmental sustainability and healthy living on wheels.
The second‑edition Cyclothon, a joint effort by the Hyderabad Cyclists Group and the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), drew about 1,200 riders. Participants ranged from defence and police officers to local cycling clubs. The group rode a 20‑kilometre loop from Rashtrapati Nilayam to Secunderabad Parade Ground and back, flashing eco‑messages along the way.
On the streets of Secunderabad, cyclists posted signs and discussed how cycling reduces emissions and promotes fitness. The event turned the city into a live showcase of green living.
Team Telangana & Andhra Sub Area (TASA) of the Indian Army joined the ride with enthusiasm. The rally was launched by Maj‑Gen Ajay Misra, the Army’s officer‑in‑charge for the region, and Olympic badminton medalist Saina Nehwal. Misra said the Army’s participation shows its devotion to nation‑building and a cleaner future. After the ride, the riders shared a moment of pride and renewed commitment to protecting the planet.
That same weekend, NMDC wrapped up its Vigilance Awareness Week 2025, which ran from October 27 to November 2 under the theme “Vigilance: Our Shared Responsibility.” Maj‑Gen Misra spoke at the closing ceremony, applauding NMDC’s role in the economy and its dedication to morality, integrity, and ethical governance. He urged employees to guard against corruption and to keep processes transparent and tech‑driven. “Vigilance is not just a duty, it is a collective promise to our nation,” Misra said.
The week’s program included workshops, contests, and interactive sessions with senior NMDC staff, vigilance officers, and school children from nearby schools. The final day featured prize awards and a group photo, marking the end of a week of learning and outreach.
