J-K: LG Sinha pays homage to Army personnel killed in Kokernag anti-terror operation

Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, laid a wreath in Srinagar to honor two fallen soldiers: Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh. The men gave their lives last Saturday while fighting terrorists in the Kishtwar Range near Kokernag. Their sacrifice highlights the bravery of India’s Army and the tough conditions soldiers face in Southern Kashmir.

The troops were part of the Army’s Chinar Corps, a unit that protects the Line of Control and the international border. On the night of October 6‑7, the Ghosh brothers and their teammates confronted a severe snowstorm and whiteout. The harsh weather turned the mountains into a deadly maze. Despite an intense search‑and‑rescue effort, the army could not locate them in time, and they were later confirmed dead.

“We salute their supreme sacrifice,” Lt‑Gov Sinha said. “Our nation will forever remember their courage and self‑less service.” He also expressed solidarity with the soldiers’ families, saying the state would support them in the coming days.

The Chinar Corps echoed the Lieutenant Governor’s tribute on X (formerly Twitter). The unit thanked the brave soldiers and pledged to stand by the bereaved families while continuing its relentless counter‑terror operations. The army’s post read that the Ghosh brothers “will forever inspire us” and that the corps would “commit to the well‑being of the families.”

The loss comes amid rising security concerns in the region. On October 9, Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed security forces to remain on high alert. He warned that terrorists might take advantage of the snowfall and adverse weather to infiltrate across the Line of Control and the international border. The Home Ministry is coordinating with state officials to tighten patrols and increase vigilance.

People across Jammu and Kashmir mourn the loss of the Ghosh brothers. Their story reminds us that the nation’s security hinges on the dedication of its soldiers, who regularly face extreme weather, rough terrain, and relentless danger every day. As the region’s government and military keep eyes on border security, the memory of Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh stands as a powerful tribute to self‑less service and national duty.
