Mahagathbandhan in Bihar failed to realise the game played by ECI through SIR: Mamata Banerjee

In Kolkata on November 25, West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a large “anti‑SIR” rally, saying that the RJD‑led Mahagathbandhan had been swept out of Bihar’s newly concluded Assembly election. She blamed the alliance’s failure to grasp the maneuvers the Election Commission performed during the Special Intensive Revision held just before the polls.
She told the crowd,
“In Bihar, the Mahagathbandhan allies could not realise the game played by the ECI through SIR there. When they realised it was too late then. That is why they were unable to even give a proper fight.”
Banerjee went on to claim that she had caught on to the ECI’s tactics in time and therefore the Commission would not be able to repeat the same trick for West Bengal, where the Assembly vote is set for next year.
She added,
“West Bengal is not Bihar. BJP is desperate to grab power in West Bengal and is making all possible moves to achieve its goal. That will remain a dream.”
During the address she said that if needed, the Trinamool Congress would stir nationwide opposition against the SIR, warning that any attempt to harm her would set off a “shake‑the‑country” reaction.
She emphasized that the BJP might have branded her a “Bangladeshi” because of her East‑Bengal heritage, had she not been born in Birbhum, West Bengal. She remarked,
“People are often branded as Bangladeshi, just because they speak in Bengali language. Fortunately, I was born in West Bengal’s Birbhum. Otherwise, they (BJP) would have even branded me as Bangladeshi.”
