President Trump fired back at CNN’s Kaitlan Collins after she asked why his new $300 million ballroom was turning out to be more expensive than it had been a year earlier. On Truth Social he posted a scathing reply, quoting: “Caitlin Collin’s of Fake News CNN, always Stupid and Nasty, asked me why the new Ballroom was costing more money than originally thought one year ago. I said because it is going to be double the size, and the quality of finishes and interiors has been brought to the highest level.” In the same post he added that the column SPAN—key to the room’s 90,000‑square‑foot footprint—has been enlarged to provide better views, stressing that the project remains under budget and ahead of schedule.
The comments came after the White House demolished the East Wing to make way for the new space, a move that has drawn scrutiny from critics who worry the ballroom might exceed the size of the historic building itself. Trump also highlighted that the project does not use any taxpayer dollars, noting a list of private donors—including Amazon, Meta, and Apple—who have provided the funds. Meanwhile, the departure of architect James McCrery II has been followed by the appointment of Shalom Baranes, a new lead architect, a change confirmed by White House officials after a Washington Post report.
