BJP’s Kangana Ranaut withdraws her plea from SC seeking to quash defamation complaint against her

Kangana Ranaut Withdraws Supreme Court Plea on Defamation Case Over Farm Law Tweet

In a recent development, Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has pulled back her plea from the Supreme Court. She wanted the court to quash a criminal defamation complaint linked to a retweet she made about the protests against the Centre’s farm laws. This comes after a lot of back-and-forth in the legal system.

Kangana’s lawyer decided to withdraw the petition following advice from a Supreme Court bench led by Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta. They suggested she explore other options at the trial court level instead. Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had turned down her request to dismiss the defamation case. The High Court pointed out that Kangana couldn’t prove her tweet was made in good faith, especially since it allegedly harmed someone’s reputation.

This defamation row stems from Kangana’s 2021 retweet supporting a controversial post on the farmers’ protests against the now-repealed farm laws. The complaint was filed by a Delhi-based professor, and it has kept the spotlight on the BJP leader’s social media activity.

On a different note, Kangana stayed active in her political role. On Tuesday, she cast her vote in the Vice Presidential election at Parliament House in New Delhi. Later, while speaking to the media, she shared updates on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to flood-ravaged Himachal Pradesh.

Kangana praised PM Modi’s efforts, saying he carried out an aerial survey of the worst-hit areas. "After the survey, the PM reviewed the situation in every district. He met families who lost everything and promised full support from the government," she told reporters. She added that the visit showed the strong bond between the central and state governments in helping Himachal’s people. Kangana even noted that PM Modi had tears in his eyes as he listened to the affected families’ stories.

PM Modi’s Aerial Survey Highlights Himachal Flood Crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday to check the damage from deadly floods and landslides. The state has faced a tough time since the monsoon started on June 20, with heavy rains, cloudbursts, and landslides causing chaos.

The disasters have led to at least 380 deaths so far. Infrastructure like roads and bridges has taken a big hit, along with farms and thousands of homes. Officials estimate the total damage at around ₹4,300 crores between June 20 and September 10.

PM Modi’s trip aimed to assess the ground reality and boost relief efforts. This comes as the state government pushes for more central aid to rebuild and support the victims. Himachal Pradesh floods and landslides continue to dominate headlines, with calls growing for better disaster preparedness in the region.
