Jammu’s CSIR-IIIM incubator wins big at Bharat Entrepreneurship Summit
The Technology Business Incubator (TBI) at CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) in Jammu has bagged the prestigious Bharat Incubator Award 2025. This exciting win came at the 4th Bharat Entrepreneurship Summit in New Delhi’s NDMC Convention Centre. The summit, a major event by the Entrepreneurs Association of India (EAI), celebrates top innovators and startups across the country.
This national award shines a spotlight on how the IIIM incubator drives innovation, nurtures startups, and boosts entrepreneurship right in Jammu and Kashmir. It’s a huge nod to their hard work in turning ideas into real growth opportunities.
Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM and Chairman of IIIM-TBI, couldn’t hide his excitement. “We’re thrilled with this recognition,” he said. “Our team works non-stop to help startups in fields like agri-tech, nutrition, healthcare, phytopharma, aroma, and biotechnology.” Ahmed called the award a solid proof of their commitment to sparking innovation and speeding up economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
He gave a shoutout to Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who leads Science and Technology and serves as CSIR Vice President, for his visionary guidance. Ahmed also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push through initiatives like Startup India and Standup India, which have supercharged the startup scene nationwide. “In Jammu and Kashmir, success comes from shifting mindsets and tapping local resources,” Ahmed added.
During the event, Saurabh Saran, a Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-IIIM and key figure in IIIM-TBI, shared impressive stats. Under Ahmed’s leadership, the institute runs three incubation centres: the BioNEST Incubator in Jammu, another BioNEST at the Industrial Biotech Park in Kathua, and the Atal Incubation Centre in Srinagar. Together, they’ve backed over 125 startups, with more than 20 already hitting the market with successful products. Their focus? Key areas like the Aroma Mission, phytopharmaceuticals, and innovations that create livelihoods.
The summit drew big names, including Chief Guest Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Delhi’s Minister, and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh. EAI leaders like Arun Kumar Sharma, Amitabh Verma, Vikas Preetam, and President Abhishek Kumar also joined the celebrations.
This year’s Bharat Entrepreneurship Summit aimed to connect entrepreneurs, spark collaborations, and empower India’s youth, farmers, and women through business. It’s all about building a stronger economy from the ground up.
CSIR-IIIM TBI thanked EAI for the honor and promised to keep pushing science-driven entrepreneurship. They’re all in on creating a lively startup ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir—one that fuels sustainable growth and opens doors for everyone.
