In Riyadh on Sunday, experts from Saudi Arabia and China gathered to talk about how the two countries are growing together. The meeting, called “Saudi‑China Dialogue and Exchange on Modernisation,” was run by the Centre for Research and Intercommunication Knowledge (CRIK) and the China Intercontinental Press, with support from Xinhua.
The session focused on building a shared path to modernisation. Participants discussed cultural ties, people‑to‑people contact, and green energy. Saleh Al‑Saqri, a former Saudi cultural attaché in China, said that since the two nations opened diplomatic relations in 1990, their partnership has expanded in both quality and size. He added that a stronger relationship with China helps Saudi Arabia maintain balance and promotes peace and understanding between cultures.
2025 will be the China‑Saudi Cultural Year and the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties. Haitham Alsayed, director of the Chinese Studies Unit at CRIK, stressed that friendships deepen through shared cultural projects, student exchanges, translations, and joint exhibitions. These initiatives, he noted, link younger generations and build lasting trust.
In recent years, the duo has shifted from a simple oil‑and‑trade model to a partnership driven by clean energy and sustainability. Abdulrahman Marshod, a CRIK researcher, said the new focus on green power marks a strategic transformation. It involves joint investment, complementary strengths, and forward‑looking projects that push both nations toward innovation and diversification.
The talks highlighted a partnership that is moving beyond traditional interests toward a future of shared growth, cultural enrichment, and renewable energy.
