Accused DC pipe-bomber Brian Cole Jr.’s face unmasked for first time after arrest in resurfaced photo
For the first time since the authorities apprehended him, a picture of suspected pipe‑bomb conspirator Brian Cole Jr. has come to light. The photo, taken in a crisp blue dress shirt and tie, was shared by his mother on Instagram for National Son’s Day back in September 2024—more than three years after the alleged attempt to detonate devices outside the Republican and Democratic National Committee headquarters on the eve of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
Surveillance footage captured Cole on January 5, 2021, the night before the riot, seen near the sites where the bombs were supposedly planted. Another clip shows an explosive device positioned outside the Republican National Committee building on the day of the attack, underscoring the seriousness of the threat.
The suspect was finally arrested on Thursday morning following a coordinated raid by FBI agents on his quiet family residence in Woodbridge, Virginia. U.S. Attorney Pam Bondi explained at a press briefing that the case had been elevated under the previous administration, allowing federal and local agencies to sift through months of evidence and secure a solid lead.
Bondi also criticized the lack of progress in the early phase of the investigation, arguing that it eroded public confidence in law‑enforcement agencies. Cole faces charges for the use of an explosive device and for attempted malicious destruction with explosives.
The story remains developing—check back for further updates.
