Raj Dy CM Diya Kumari inaugurates five-day festival; says Sambhar emerging as global tourist site

Jaipur, Dec 27 – Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, Diya Kumari, officially opened the five‑day Sambhar Festival in Jhapok, Jaipur district, on Saturday. In her remarks, she highlighted Sambhar’s growing status as a global tourist spot and noted that the event is being run on a larger scale than last year, with plans for further expansion in the future.

The festival runs from Dec 27 to Dec 31, 2025, and is co‑hosted by the Rajasthan Tourism Department, the Jaipur district administration and the local Sambhar Municipal Council. The opening ceremony was attended by former MLA Nirmal Kumawat, Additional District Collector Ashish Kumar, Sub‑Divisional Magistrate Rishi Raj Kapil and Deputy Director of Tourism Upendra Singh Shekhawat.

After the midday inauguration amid a crowd of visitors, Diya Kumari toured craft and food stalls, met with local artisans, released commemorative postcards, and visited both a kite and a photography exhibition. She welcomed both domestic and international tourists and praised the organizers for putting together a more ambitious program than the previous year.

“The Sambhar Festival has now carved a distinct identity on the global tourism map,” she said, adding that the area’s natural beauty is its biggest draw. She noted that winter migratory birds – especially the Greater Flamingo – bring worldwide attention to the lake.

Diya Kumari also emphasized the state’s ongoing work to improve tourist facilities and road infrastructure, making travel to the lake easier for visitors. She encouraged guests to soak in the scenery, experience local culture and folk shows, and share their moments on social media to help promote Sambhar worldwide.

Highlights of the festival include art and craft stalls, food courts, a kite‑flying exhibition, horse and camel rides, and various adventure activities. Visitors can also try parasailing, paramotoring, paragliding, jeep and ATV safaris, balloon rides, and cycling. Folk performers will entertain crowds throughout the site.

Other featured activities are a jeep/car adventure rally, a salt‑processing tour, bird‑watching at the salt lake, a train‑based salt expedition, and stargazing sessions. From Dec 28 to Dec 30, the program will include heritage walks, cycling tours, adventure rallies, exhibitions, folk performances, and various outdoor sports. Celebrity evenings are slated for December 28 (with Moti Khan), December 29 (Raperiya Balam), and December 30 (Mahaveer Nath – a Rajasthani folk night). On December 31, guests can enjoy heritage walks, kite‑flying displays, exhibitions, adventure sports, camel and horse rides, and street performances by folk artists.
