Kolkata – A Bangladeshi man was taken into custody after he tried to sneak into the Bengdubi Army Base near Bagdogra in West Bengal.
Army soldiers on duty noticed that Nanda Mondal behaved oddly while the base was busy with construction work. He tried to blend in as a local labourer, but his story didn’t add up. When the jawans asked him questions, Mondal eventually admitted he was from Bangladesh and did not have any legal documents to stay in India.
The soldiers handed him over to the Bagdogra Police Station, where officers will interview him about his motives. Early reports say he crossed the border without permission and may face charges in a district court next week.
The incident follows a May arrest in the same area, where Border Security Force jawans detained another suspected Bangladeshi spy, Ashraful Alam, who claimed to be a former officer of Bangladesh’s main intelligence agency. Both cases highlight the authorities’ focus on keeping the Army cantonment and nearby border areas secure.
