In a nail-biting Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 match, Dwaine Pretorius became the unlikely hero for Guyana Amazon Warriors, smashing a stunning last-ball six to defeat table-toppers St Lucia Kings. The thrilling win at Providence Stadium in Georgetown, Guyana, secured the Warriors’ spot in the playoffs and eliminated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots from contention, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Chasing a modest target, the Warriors needed just 12 runs off the final over. With five runs required from the last ball, Pretorius stayed calm and hammered David Wiese’s attempted yorker—which turned into a juicy full toss—straight over long-on for six. The crowd erupted in wild cheers as the underdogs pulled off the impossible.
This victory boosted the Guyana Amazon Warriors to fourth place with 10 points. They face Barbados Royals in their final league game, and a win there could rocket them into the top two for a better playoff shot.
The last over was pure drama. Moeen Ali got dropped in the deep, then Wiese’s high full toss earned a no-ball call, handing the Warriors a free hit. Moeen tried for a second run but got run out, leaving Pretorius to seal the deal in style.
Earlier, opener Quentin Sampson fired on all cylinders for the Warriors, smashing a boundary off the first ball and racing to a quick 50 off 27 deliveries. His explosive partnership with Shai Hope pushed the score past 100 in just 11 overs. But St Lucia Kings’ Roston Chase fought back hard, taking two wickets in two balls to remove Sampson and Shimron Hetmyer—Hetmyer, who’s struggled lately with his second straight duck and seventh single-digit score in nine innings.
Hope’s dismissal piled pressure on the lower order, but Moeen’s six in the second-last over calmed things down. Pretorius then delivered the knockout punch.
For the Kings, Chase starred with bat and ball. Coming in at 27/2, he unleashed boundaries against Moeen Ali and teamed up with Ackeem Auguste, who blazed a swift 50 off 30 balls. Chase went on to an unbeaten 90 off 55 deliveries and snared three wickets. Despite his all-round brilliance, Pretorius’ heroics left the Kings stunned and empty-handed in this CPL thriller.
