Uttarakhand CM Dhami inaugurates newly developed pulse varieties produced by Pantnagar University

Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami turned up on the 12th of October to open the 118th All‑India Farmers Fair and Agricultural Industry Exhibition at Pantnagar University. While walking through the crowded fair, he marked the launch of new pulse varieties developed by the university and handed out a book titled Pantnagar Pravah.

During the fair’s Silver Jubilee Statehood Seminar, Dhami noted that 400 stalls are now in place, with more than 200 run by industry, startups and entrepreneurs from across India. He said the event is not just about selling products or equipment; it’s a meeting place where farmers, scientists and business owners exchange ideas, learn new techniques and build future plans.

“The lot of farmers can walk in, see the latest seeds, machinery and research at one stop and take home useful tricks,” he told the crowd. He urged that modern tech should complement traditional farming so that work gets easier and yields higher earnings.

The CM also linked the fair to the central government’s push, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to make India a developed country. He highlighted a 3‑year programme that offers farmers across the country financial help. In Uttarakhand, roughly nine lakh farmers receive ₹6,000 each year through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Other central support includes the Fasal Bima Yojana, Soil Health Card, PM‑Kisan Maandhan, Millet Mission and Digital Agriculture Mission.

In the state budget, the limit on the Kisan Credit Card was raised from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh. The new Rs 24 000 crore “PM Dhan Dhanya” scheme and Rs 11 500 crore Pulse Productivity Mission are aimed at boosting pulse production. Uttarakhand also offers interest‑free loans up to ₹3 lakh, 80 % subsidies for farm machinery and free canal irrigation. A Rs 200 crore grant has already helped build 350 polyhouses, and the state has earmarked ₹1,000 crore for a climate‑responsive rain‑fed farming project. Grain pricing has been lifted, with a bonus on wheat and higher sugarcane prices.

Dhami also spoke about growing fruit and vegetable production. New policies for apples, kiwis, millets and dragon fruit, invested at ₹1,200 crore, give farmers up to 80 % subsidy and grant funds for sorting and grading units.

He urged scientists to look at traditional farming practices—how old generations preserved soil health and crop quality—so modern knowledge can be shared quickly with farmers, further boosting output and income.

At the same meet, a session covered the Anti‑Cheating Law and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand. Dhami described the UCC as a historic step to give all citizens equal rights, independent of religion or community, and to eliminate discrimination. He said the state is committed to honouring its cultural heritage while making this constitutional reform work.

University Vice‑Chancellor Dr. Manmohan Singh Chauhan thanked the CM for the UCC and noted the university’s progress in research and integrated farming. He added that the state’s per‑capita income now stands at ₹2.61 lakh—a 26 % rise—and that 507 stalls have already welcomed about 20,000 farmers.

The 118th Farmers Fair and Agricultural Industry Exhibition at Pantnagar University continues to spotlight new technology, supportive policies, and community dialogue—publicizing the state’s ambition to grow agriculture, protect farmers and strengthen the whole economy.
