
In Delhi, the Indian men’s hockey team was named for the 31st Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025, which will take place in Ipoh, Malaysia, from Nov. 23 to 30. Hockey India announced captain Sanjay, who will lead the squad into the prestigious invitational tournament.
India opens the competition against Korea on opening day, 23 November, then plays Belgium the next day. The team will face hosts Malaysia on the 26th, New Zealand on the 27th, and finish the round‑robin stage against Canada on the 29th. The top two clubs will advance to the final on Nov. 30.
The squad features two goalkeepers: Pawan and Mohith Honnenahalli Shashikumar. Defenders include Poovanna Chandura Boby, Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Yashdeep Siwach, Jugraj Singh, Amit Rohidas, plus captain Sanjay. Midfielders are Rajinder Singh, Raj Kumar Pal, Nilakanta Sharma, Rabichandra Singh Moirangthem, Vivek Sagar Prasad and Mohammed Raheel Mouseen. The forwards are Sukhjeet Singh, Shilanand Lakra, Selvam Karthi, Aditya Arjun Lalage, Dilpreet Singh and Abhishek. Stand‑by players include Varun Kumar, Vishnu Kant Singh, Hardik Singh and Angad Bir Singh.
India last won the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2010 and finished as runners‑up in 2019. With the new lineup and focused training, the Men in Blue aim to lift the trophy again in Ipoh.
Coach Craig Fulton said the Cup is a vital stop on the international calendar and that the team is “prepared to bring structure in attack and defence, make smart decisions under pressure, and play consistently.” Fulton added the tournament will help the squad build momentum for the 2026 World Cup and Asian Games cycle.
This lineup showcases India’s depth across all positions, with a mix of experienced leaders and emerging talent ready to compete in one of hockey’s most respected invitational events.
