Five-day winter session of Madhya Pradesh Assembly begins tomorrow

Bhopal, Nov 30 (LatestNewsX) – The 16th Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly is set to open its winter session on Monday, December 1, and will stay in session until Friday, December 5. This marks the seventh convening of the current house.

Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar met with senior secretariat officials on Saturday to review preparations and confirm that all arrangements are in place for a smooth five‑day run.

Even though the session spans five calendar days, business will actually be conducted on only four sittings because December 3, a Tuesday, is traditionally a non‑sitting day reserved for committee work and other legislative activities in Madhya Pradesh.

The secretariat has already taken in a surprisingly large number of notices ahead of the session. To date, 751 listed questions and 746 unstarred questions that require written replies have been accepted, bringing the total to 1,497.

Members have filed 194 calling‑attention notices, six adjournment‑motion notices, 52 zero‑hour submissions, 14 private‑member resolutions, two notices under Rule 139 for urgent public matters, and 15 petitions.

The government has also earmarked two bills for introduction and passage during this brief period.

Tomar directed all staff to finish pre‑session formalities early, including the printing and distribution of the provisional agenda, updating the digital question‑tracking system, and setting up uninterrupted live telecast and webcast capabilities.

He underscored the importance of Covid‑appropriate conduct inside the assembly and requested that the engineering team keep backup power and air‑conditioning systems ready, given the sharp drop in temperatures across Bhopal.

With the opposition Congress preparing to confront the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on a range of issues—from farm distress and rising unemployment to law and order and alleged irregularities in recruitment exams—the short session is expected to be tense, even with its limited duration.

Party leaders from both benches held separate strategy sessions on Saturday evening, hinting that the Question Hour and calling‑attention motions will likely spark heated debate from day one.

As the historic Vidhan Sabha building readies itself for another pivotal meeting, observers will be watching to see whether the government and opposition can balance intense political contestation with productive legislative work during this compressed winter sitting that starts on Monday morning.
