India-Taiwan Trade Set to Hit $12 Billion Milestone in 2025
India and Taiwan are strengthening their economic ties, with bilateral trade expected to reach a whopping $12 billion next year. This exciting growth comes straight from Yu-Chi Chen, Executive Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India. She shared these insights during the Taiwan Expo 2025 in New Delhi, highlighting how the two nations are teaming up for bigger business opportunities.
Chen pointed out that post-pandemic, India-Taiwan trade has surged every year. In 2024, it hit a record $10.6 billion, showing real momentum in their economic partnership. From January to August this year alone, trade already clocked $8 billion. "We’re on track to break records again," she said enthusiastically. This boom isn’t just good for Taiwanese firms—Indian companies are also eager to expand and collaborate more.
Investment is another bright spot. Taiwanese companies investing in India have jumped over threefold since 2017, with more than 250 businesses now active here. This surge deepens the integration of their industrial supply chains and shows Taiwanese firms’ strong commitment to the Indian market.
A key push? Free Trade Agreements (FTA). Chen stressed that an India-Taiwan FTA would be a game-changer. "FTAs always help because they cut tariffs first, paving the way for more investments," she explained. High tariffs are a big hurdle for companies, but lower ones through an FTA would slash production costs. This would benefit Indian manufacturers too, especially with initiatives like Make in India, using local machinery, materials, and goods.
"With low tariffs from an FTA, Indian companies can compete better globally," Chen added. She urged both sides to work toward this agreement soon, noting it would make trade smoother and more affordable.
The Taiwan Expo plays a huge role in all this. Held in New Delhi, it offers a fantastic platform for direct business chats between Indian and Taiwanese companies. "Despite cultural differences and the 4,000-kilometer distance, this event bridges the gap," Chen said. Organized by TAITRA, the expo lets firms showcase products, find partners, and build trust over three days of interactions.
As India-Taiwan relations grow, events like this expo and potential FTAs could unlock even more trade and investment wins for both countries.
