Congress submits memorandum to Guv over ‘spying’ in Rajasthan Assembly

Congress Leaders Demand Probe into Hidden Cameras in Rajasthan Assembly

In a heated political clash in Rajasthan, Congress leaders have accused the BJP government of spying on opposition MLAs using secret cameras in the state assembly. On Thursday, a group of Congress bigwigs, led by Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully, met Governor Haribhau Bagde and handed over a memorandum highlighting these serious allegations.

The delegation included key figures like Deputy Leader of Opposition Ramkesh Meena, Chief Whip Rafeek Khan, former Minister Rajendra Pareek, Amin Kagzi, Amit Chachan, and MP Bhajanlal Jatav. They urged the governor to investigate the matter right away. Governor Bagde listened carefully and promised to ask for a detailed report from the authorities.

Speaking to reporters, LoP Jully explained how the controversy erupted. On September 9, during assembly sessions, Congress MLAs spotted these hidden cameras—nicknamed the "third eye"—in the "No-Side Block" area of the house. Jully claimed these cameras keep watching opposition leaders even after sessions end, calling it a clear breach of privacy for Rajasthan MLAs.

He slammed Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani and State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel for brushing off their repeated complaints. "Why install new hidden cameras when the assembly already has a solid setup for recording and live broadcasts?" Jully asked. He demanded answers: Who put up these Rajasthan assembly cameras? Under whose orders? And who controls the YouTube feed from them?

The Congress party wants a full investigation into the hidden cameras controversy. If the footage is legit, they say, stream it publicly on YouTube just like the other assembly cameras. Jully accused the BJP government of dragging down the assembly’s dignity with this spying scandal.

Things got even tenser with remarks from BJP leaders. Government Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg quipped that "the house isn’t a bedroom or bathroom, so privacy doesn’t apply here." Jully called this out as outrageous. He also hit back at BJP MLA Gopal Sharma, who claimed opposition MLAs "hold night protests and do wrong things." Congress sees this as an insult to all 200 legislators and has filed a privilege motion against Sharma.

Jully shared that Congress just wanted a quick 15-minute break to discuss the issue privately with the speaker. But when the chair said no, it led to a standoff. This forced opposition MLAs to skip debates on two important bills, escalating the Rajasthan political storm.

As the row over hidden cameras in Rajasthan assembly grows, eyes are on the governor’s next move. Will this lead to a bigger probe into the spying allegations? Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding controversy.
