Delhi Health Minister reviews TB campaign as screening touches 8.78 lakh

On Thursday, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh convened a briefing to gauge how the centrally funded TB Elimination Programme is unfolding after 8.78 lakh residents were screened across the city. The gathering, held in the Delhi Secretariat, brought senior Health Department officials and TB‑cell doctors together to evaluate progress in the national drive.

The minister highlighted that, under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s leadership, the Delhi administration carried out the 100‑day TB campaign—now re‑branded as TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan—and noted that roughly 3.8 lakh chest X‑rays have been performed, which has dramatically helped spot new cases and start treatment promptly.

He added that Delhi remains a front‑line city in this nationwide effort, reinforcing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Health for All” pledge. The government’s goal is to screen 50 lakh people, and it boasts 190 diagnostic hubs and 365 treatment stations offering free, quality care to every TB patient.

Notably, Delhi achieved 99 % of the National TB Elimination Programme target for January‑November 2025 and was awarded the Jan Bhagidari Award by Union Minister J.P. Nadda for its impactful work and strong public engagement.

Delhi’s focus on community participation is evident through the successful Nikshay Mitra Initiative, which supplies nutrition, vocational guidance, diagnostic help, and psychological support to TB patients. Since its launch, 4,313 Nikshay Mitras have distributed 223,457 food baskets, assisting 103,593 patients.

“The city is steadfast in its pursuit of a TB‑free nation,” the Health Minister said. “Our progress reflects robust teamwork, citizen cooperation, and the relentless dedication of our healthcare workers.”

He added, “We will keep strengthening screenings, support systems, and community engagement so every TB patient receives timely care, nutrition, and encouragement. Our mission is clear—Delhi will lead the way to make TB Mukt Bharat a reality.”

Delhi remains committed to intensifying its TB eradication efforts through continuous monitoring, strong community outreach, and enhanced patient support. By fostering collaboration among departments, healthcare providers, and residents, the city aims to set a national example for a TB‑free future, pledging renewed determination to realize the TB Mukt Bharat vision.
