Mauritius PM to visit Varanasi next week, to hold bilateral meeting with PM Modi

Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth is set for a significant visit to India, with the spiritual city of Varanasi being a key highlight of his itinerary. The Prime Minister will arrive in Varanasi on September 10th for a three-day stay.

A major part of the visit will be a high-level bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Jugnauth and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on September 11th. Following their official talks, PM Modi will accompany his Mauritian counterpart back to Varanasi.

In Varanasi, the leaders are scheduled to witness the iconic Ganga Aarti ceremony on the evening of September 11th. The following day, Prime Minister Jugnauth will offer prayers at the revered Kashi Vishwanath Temple before traveling to Ayodhya.

This state visit marks Prime Minister Jugnauth’s first official bilateral trip to India in his current term. Beyond Varanasi and Delhi, his itinerary includes stops in Mumbai for a business event and a visit to Tirupati.

The relationship between India and Mauritius is historically strong, deeply rooted in shared culture and extensive people-to-people ties. Just last month, Prime Minister Jugnauth extended warm Independence Day wishes to India, highlighting the shared values of freedom, democracy, and unity between the two nations.

In response, PM Modi reaffirmed the special bond, calling Mauritius a “strategic and trusted partner.” This visit is seen as a step to further strengthen the cooperation and friendship between India and Mauritius.
