India Women’s Cricket Team Crushes Australia in Thrilling ODI Win
In a powerhouse display at Mullanpur, Punjab, the Indian women’s cricket team delivered a stunning 102-run victory over Australia on Wednesday. Smriti Mandhana’s explosive century lit up the match, while the bowlers ran riot to seal the deal and end Australia’s impressive 13-match ODI winning streak.
This win marks India’s first home ODI triumph against Australia since 2007—that last one was at Chepauk back in February. It’s also Australia’s heaviest defeat by runs in ODI history, and it levels the three-match series at 1-1. Fans are buzzing ahead of the decider in New Delhi on Saturday.
India’s innings kicked off on a high note. Batting first, they racked up 292 runs, thanks to a solid 70-run opening stand between Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. Rawal departed in the 12th over, caught by Ashleigh Gardner, but Mandhana kept the momentum going.
Harleen Deol and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur struggled, scoring just 10 and 17 respectively before heading back. Mandhana then teamed up with Deepti Sharma to navigate the middle overs with smart singles and doubles, building a steady platform.
Fresh off her ranking as the world’s top women’s ODI batter, Mandhana stole the show. She smashed the fastest century for India in ODIs, reaching her milestone in just 83 balls. This was her 12th ODI ton, matching England’s Tammy Beaumont and doing it in fewer innings—106 versus Beaumont’s 130. What a way to celebrate!
Once Australia finally got Mandhana out, the lower order fired up. Deepti Sharma scored a gritty 40 off 53 balls, Richa Ghosh added 29 off 33, and Sneh Rana chipped in with 24 off 18. Their quick cameos pushed India to a challenging total.
Australia’s chase crumbled from the start. They lost opener Georgia Voll for a golden duck, and captain Alyssa Healy followed soon after for just 9. Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry tried to rebuild with a 50-run partnership for the third wicket, but Sneh Rana struck to remove Mooney for 18.
Perry fought hard with 44 runs, and Annabel Sutherland notched 45, but that was it for Australia’s resistance. The tail folded for just 26 runs, and the visitors were all out for 190 while chasing 293. India’s bowlers, led by sharp performances all around, made it look easy.
This dominant win in the India vs Australia women’s ODI series has everyone talking. With the series tied, the final match in New Delhi promises more excitement—don’t miss it!
