The Election Commission (EC) has sent a notice to Congress leader Pawan Khera over his voter registration. The EC questioned Khera about holding two EPIC ID cards and registered him as a voter in two different Delhi assembly constituencies — New Delhi and Jangpura.
This move came after Khera’s own voter IDs from both constituencies came to light. The EC’s notice includes copies of these voter IDs and asks Khera for an explanation about being registered in more than one place.
Khera, who leads the Congress party’s media and publicity team, responded to the controversy. He said that this situation actually supports their accusations of voter fraud. He also criticized the Election Commission for its handling of electoral rolls, saying there are systemic failures.
Earlier in the day, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya posted photographs showing the two voter lists. He claimed Khera has two active EPIC ID numbers, pointing this out as evidence of irregularities. Malviya also remarked on Khera’s close ties with Congress leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, suggesting that this raises questions about voter registration transparency.
Khera denied any wrongdoing. He told , “The real issue lies with the Election Commission’s functioning. We are demanding transparency — want access to Varanasi’s voter list, CCTV footage from Maharashtra booths, and other records. Without this, we believe vote theft is happening.”
This controversy adds to ongoing debates about voter lists and electoral transparency in India.
