Chennai, Nov. 2 – A big meeting of all political parties is set for Sunday in Chennai ahead of Tamil Nadu’s first Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The session, called by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, will decide how the state’s 60‑plus parties will work together when the revision starts on Tuesday, November 4.
The SIR is a fresh version of what Bihar recently did, and it is expected to clear out old names, add new voters and remove errors from the roll. Some opposition parties say the timing and method might be used to their enemies’ advantage. Stalin wants to keep the process open and has invited leaders from every party to discuss it.
The gathering will begin at 10 a.m. on the campus of Thyagaraya Nagar. The invitation oval edge says “All-Party Consultation on SIR.” DMK high‑ranking members – including Organising Secretary Poochi Murugan – have already sent letters to party leaders in person over the last two days.
While the ruling DMK and its allies are present, major opposition groups such as AIADMK, BJP and the PMK faction led by Anbumani Ramadoss have opted out. However, a mix of smaller and regional parties – DMDK, Tamizhaga Makkal Katchi, Thamizhaga Vetri Kazham and others – will attend. In total, about 60 parties received invitations.
Political analysts expect the meeting to solidify demands for a fair, transparent revision process. Parties will suggest voter‑verification steps, how to add new voters and how to handle conflicting entries. The session will also decide how the state government will collaborate with the Election Commission and district officials as the 2026 Assembly elections loom.
The meeting on Sunday marks a crucial political moment, as leaders aim to ensure that the SIR is conducted cleanly and that the electoral rolls accurately reflect Tamil Nadu’s voters.
