2nd T20I: This is a special moment for me, says Harmanpreet on stand naming honour

In New Chandigarh on Dec 11, India’s women’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur talked about the honor of seeing a stand named after her before the start of the second T20I at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. She described the event as a “special moment,” adding that all her hard work and struggles finally paid off.

During the pre‑match ceremony, Yuvraj Singh, the former India men’s all‑rounder, was also celebrated with a stand bearing his name. Families, team‑mates like Amanjot Kaur and Harleen Deol, BCCI President Mithun Manhas, and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann joined the two stars.

After India’s World Cup win, “a lot of things have changed in my life,” Harmanpreet said in a BCCI‑posted video. “I started learning the game on that very soil, and today a stand will carry my name. It is a proud moment, and I’m grateful to the Punjab Cricket Association for making it happen.”

She added that the day is “very emotional” but also hopes the footage will inspire everyone watching.

Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket in 2019 but played a pivotal role in India’s first T20 World Cup in 2007 and was the Player of the Series at the 2011 ODI World Cup, praised the victory and expressed his excitement for the team’s achievement.

Later, he shared his feelings about the stand, saying, “That’s a huge honour. After years playing for India and Punjab, it’s special to see a ground named after me. Thank you to the BCCI and PCA for their support.”
