Prime Minister Narendra Modi fired off a celebratory tweet on Sunday, congratulating India’s space agency, ISRO, on the successful launch of its biggest communication satellite yet – CMS‑03.
In his post on X, Modi wrote: “Our space sector continues to make us proud! Congratulations, ISRO, on the successful launch of India’s heaviest communication satellite, CMS‑03.” He added that the satellite, powered by India’s own scientists, showcases the nation’s excellence and innovation and that such wins fuel progress and benefit everyday lives.
The Vice‑President, C. P. Radhakrishnan, also sent his heartfelt congratulations to both ISRO and the Indian Navy. He praised the launch, noting that the LVM3‑M5 rocket – nicknamed Bahubali – lifted the satellite into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. According to Radhakrishnan, the indigenously built CMS‑03 will strengthen space‑based communications, connect the Indian Ocean Region, and boost maritime awareness. He said this achievement marks another proud moment for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, India’s self‑reliance drive.
Experts who watched the flight called it a “monumental achievement.” The launch from Sriharikota’s spaceport proved again that India can place heavy‑payload satellites into strategic orbits for defense and communication.
Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt, the retired Director‑General of the Indian Space Association, hailed the launch as a defining moment for the country’s space capabilities. “The LVM3 rocket shows our sovereign power to launch heavy satellites for strategic needs,” Bhatt said. “CMS‑03 will change the game for maritime and national security, giving us advanced, secure channels across the Indian Ocean and the mainland.”
With the CMS‑03 now safely orbiting, India takes another big step forward in its space journey, demonstrating its growing self‑reliance and its readiness to deploy cutting‑edge space assets.
