Paris, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – Mohammed Ben Sulayem has won a second four‑year term as president of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and will stay on the post until 2029.
The 64‑year‑old Emirati, who stepped in after Jean Todt in December 2021, was re‑elected at the annual FIA general assembly in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with no other candidates in the race.
“Thank you to all our FIA members for voting in remarkable numbers and placing your trust in me once again. We have overcome many obstacles but here today, together, we are stronger than ever,” said the president.
“It is truly an honour to be FIA President, and I am committed to continuing to deliver for the FIA, for motorsport, for mobility, and for our Member Clubs in every region around the world.”
Potential challengers—such as Swiss‑French racer Laura Villars and former American steward Tim Mayer—failed to meet the requirement of naming a vice‑president from each of FIA’s six global areas, leaving Ben Sulayem unchallenged. The only other name on the official ballot was South American Brazilian Fabiana Ecclestone, who is married to former Formula One magnate Bernie and sits on Ben Sulayem’s team.
Over the past four years, the FIA has undergone significant changes, improving its operations, governance, and financial footing. These reforms have strengthened the federation’s standing as the world’s leading motorsport regulator and the primary authority on safe, sustainable, and affordable mobility.
Under Ben Sulayem’s guidance, the FIA rebounded from a €24.0 million deficit in 2021 to a robust €4.7 million operating profit in 2024, marking its best financial performance in more than a decade. The organization also projected a €4.4 million operating profit for 2025 during the annual meeting, underscoring continued growth and enabling increased long‑term investment in Member Clubs and global strategic initiatives.
