Delhi LG highlights DDA’s move to offer Movable Basketball Hoops for visitors at Asita, Mehrauli Park

Di Delhi’s parks now have a new twist: the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has rolled out movable basketball hoops along the Yamuna and in Mehrauli’s popular outdoor spaces.
Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena announced the change on X, saying it was part of the DDA’s “sporting zing” for its recreational parks. Asita, Baansera and Mehrauli Archaeological Park are the first sites to receive the new hoops and a set of basketballs. “It’s great to see people already using the equipment,” Saxena added, encouraging visitors to try alley‑oop, free‑throw and even airballs.
The DDA sees this as a step forward in making sports and fitness easier for Delhi residents. Earlier, the authority also revealed plans to give citizens a bird‑eye view of the city through hot‑air balloon rides. The new project will launch at the Yamuna Sports Complex, Commonwealth Games Sports Complex, and along the Yamuna bank at Asita and Baansera.
The hot‑air balloon venture will be run by a private firm on a revenue‑sharing basis. Each site will get a 60 × 60 m area and two‑hour daily flight sessions, with the option to extend if demand rises. Ticket proceeds will go straight into DDA’s account to keep everything transparent.
In addition to the new sports gear, the DDA has transformed several former wastelands into green oases: Asita, once encroached land, is now a landscaped park; Baansera Bamboo Park in Sarai Kale Khan sprouts over 30,000 bamboos, three water bodies and a musical fountain. These projects are part of a larger effort to rejuvenate the River Yamuna and boost eco‑tourism in the capital.
With movable basketball hoops added and hot‑air balloon rides on the horizon, Delhi’s outdoor spaces are becoming even more lively and accessible. Residents and tourists alike can look forward to fresh, fun ways to explore the capital’s natural and cultural beauty.
