Shimla, 4 October 2024 – A group of 25 young students from the Gujjar and Bakarwal communities in Kathua district, Jammu & Kashmir, met Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhavan on Saturday. The visit was part of the Indian Army’s National Integration Tour, called Operation Sadbhavna, which brings children from remote and border areas into contact with the country’s leaders and military.
Governor Shukla greeted the children warmly and praised the Army’s initiative. “These tours help students see India’s diversity and growth,” he said. “I urge you to finish your studies with hard work and to contribute positively to our nation’s progress.”
The three‑day tour started in Mamun Cantonment and moved to Chandigarh on September 28. While in Chandigarh, the students met the governors of Punjab and Haryana, toured the Western Command headquarters, and enjoyed popular sites such as Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake.
In Shimla, the students explored the Annandale Museum, the local Bird Sanctuary, the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, and the Army Training Command HQ (ARTRAC). They met senior army officers who shared insights about service and leadership.
Students thanked the Army for a memorable and educational experience and praised the governor’s encouraging words and hospitality. CP Verma, the Governor’s secretary, and Lt. Col Amreek Singh, the tour coordinator, also attended the event. ()
