New Delhi, Dec. 11 (LatestNewsX) – On Thursday, Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed that the city will be reorganised from 11 to 13 revenue districts to make governance smoother and services more citizen‑centric. She made the announcement in a Cabinet meeting she chaired, and officials say the move is a bold step toward simpler, more transparent and better coordinated government.
The Chief Minister added, “No previous government had addressed this long‑pending decision to strengthen Delhi’s administrative framework.” “Our government has achieved this objective in just 10 months. It is a powerful example of implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of good governance on the ground,” she said.
She stressed that the district administration is the backbone of any governance system and the closest link between the government and its people. “Considering Delhi’s rapidly growing population, construction activity, urban expansion, and increasing complexity of civic services, it has become essential to make the district administration more organized, effective, and accountable,” she noted.
In a metropolis like Delhi, smaller, balanced, and empowered districts are key for better coordination of services, faster delivery, quicker grievance redressal, and effective monitoring – which is why the number of districts is being bumped from 11 to 13.
Rekha Gupta explained that for years, revenue district boundaries had not matched those of the Municipal Corporation zones, NDMC, and the Delhi Cantonment Board. That misalignment led to delays in service delivery, confusion over complaints, land‑record hassles and inconsistencies across departments.
Following the reorganisation, the borders of all 13 districts will match those of the Municipal Corporation, NDMC and the Delhi Cantonment Board, bringing clarity to governance and improving coordination between departments. The new structure will see districts increase to 13 and sub‑divisions rise to 39, helping to balance staff workloads and speed up service delivery.
She also announced that the state will set up modern, multi‑departmental ‘Mini Secretariats’ in each of the 13 districts, giving residents a single point of access to services such as Revenue Offices, SDM, ADM, Tehsil and Sub‑Registrar Offices.
