Husband charged with repeatedly drugging, raping wife over 13 years — with 5 others allegedly involved
A former UK local councillor has been charged with a massive slate of sexual offenses against his now‑ex‑wife — the allegations stretch from 2010 to 2023 and include repeated drug‑induced rape, voyeurism, and possession of illegal pornography.
Philip Young, 49, turned up at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He faces 56 charges, 11 of which are rape and another 11 alleging he drugged his wife to facilitate sexual acts. Investigators also say he engaged in at least 200 voyeuristic acts and possessed hundreds of pornographic images, including child‑abuse material, depictions of animals, rape and death scenes.
The court case also involved six other men accused of abusing Joanne Young, who has publicly identified herself. The men—Dean Hamilton (46), a homeless former addict; Norman Macksoni (47); Richard Wilkins (61); Connor Sanderson Doyle (31); and Mohammed Hassan (37)—are charged with a mix of rape, sexual assault by penetration and other sexual offenses. Police are still trying to locate a sixth alleged abuser.
All seven defendants appeared on the same day. Their only statement was the confirmation of their names and addresses; none entered a plea, and Young was remanded in custody. The defendants were given bail, which includes a no‑contact prohibition with the accuser.
Formerly a Conservative councillor on the local authority between 2007 and 2010, Young’s case has drawn heightened police attention. Wiltshire Police have stated that her privacy should be respected as she receives support from specially trained officers.
