Netanyahu says Israel’s military campaign ‘not over’ despite Gaza ceasefire

Jerusalem, Oct. 13 – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a live audience that Israel’s military campaign “is not over” even as the government prepares to free 20 living hostages and a large group of Palestinian detainees under the new Gaza ceasefire with Hamas.

In the televised address, Netanyahu called the planned release a “historic event.” He said, “Wherever we fought, we won,” added a note of optimism, but warned that the war is not finished. The leader emphasized that Israel still faces “very big security challenges.” He cautioned that some enemies are regrouping and pledged to keep the country safe.

Meanwhile, Israel’s military chief Eyal Zamir said Israel has secured a victory over Hamas. He said the win came from a mix of steady military pressure and diplomatic work. Zamir added that Israel remains in a multi‑front conflict and will keep acting to shape a security reality that stops the Gaza Strip from posing a threat to Israel and its civilians. He noted that ongoing operations are reshaping the Middle East and Israel’s long‑term security strategy.

The Gaza ceasefire went into effect Friday after more than two years of Israeli strikes that devastated the strip and triggered famine. The agreement now marks a pivotal moment as Israel and Hamas move toward a new phase in the conflict.
