Dubai-based author Charmie Bhayani has just launched her debut novel, Live in a Dream, and it’s already captivating readers with its heartfelt take on love, loss, and life’s surprising turns. At 39, Charmie is stepping into her new identity as a storyteller, moving beyond her days as a mother and former interior designer to share her creative spark.
Charmie’s journey to authorship draws from a rich, globe-trotting life. She grew up in Oman, studied in India and Germany, and now calls Dubai home. This mix of cultures gives her writing a fresh, worldly edge. Back in 2009, she graduated with a bachelor’s in Interior Design from CEPT University in Ahmedabad—a place that ignited her creative fire early on.
"I was always a top student, but becoming a mom to my son Jivaan became my main focus," Charmie shares. "That didn’t kill my passion for creativity, though. I turned to poetry during my college days, and it grew into full-blown fiction writing while juggling full-time motherhood."
In Live in a Dream, Charmie pours out the "magic of her mind," blending real-life inspirations with her imagination. The story follows Saanvi and Surya, a pair of college sweethearts whose easy romance hits heartbreaking obstacles. It dives deep into whether true love is real or just a fleeting dream, pulling readers into the hidden layers of emotion and the subconscious pull of romance.
Publishing her first book felt like a whirlwind of joy for Charmie. "The support from family and friends has been amazing, and now that I’m a published author, I feel this fresh wave of confidence," she says. Her goal? To connect with romantic dreamers of all ages through her words.
When she’s not writing, Charmie loves exploring the world with her husband Hardik and son Jivaan. These travels fuel her stories with vibrant cultures and sights. She’s already brainstorming her next project—a bold shift into a new genre away from romance.
For anyone dreaming of writing their own book, Charmie keeps it real: "Focus on enjoying the process more than the end goal. Writing mirrors your thoughts and lets your creativity run wild."
