Sameer Wankhede, the former head of the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Mumbai zone and an Indian Revenue Service officer, has taken legal action against Bollywood powerhouse Red Chillies Entertainment—owned by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan. He’s filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court, targeting the production company, Netflix, and others over content in the new series “The Bastards of Bollywood,” directed by Aryan Khan.
Wankhede claims the show features a false and damaging video that paints him in a bad light and mocks anti-drug enforcement agencies. According to his lawsuit, this negative portrayal undermines trust in law enforcement and hurts public confidence in efforts to fight drug crimes in India.
He argues the series was created on purpose to tarnish his reputation, especially now that legal cases involving him and Aryan Khan are still playing out in the Bombay High Court and a special NDPS court in Mumbai. Wankhede says the timing feels targeted, hitting him hard during ongoing judicial reviews.
One scene that really bothers him shows a character making an obscene gesture right after saying “Satyamev Jayate,” India’s national motto. Wankhede’s suit calls this a serious insult to national symbols, breaking the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act of 1971, which carries criminal penalties. He also points out that the show’s offensive material violates India’s Information Technology Act and the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), stirring up outrage against national feelings.
In his plea, Wankhede wants the court to issue a permanent ban on streaming or distributing the series on Netflix and elsewhere. He’s asking for a formal declaration that the content is defamatory and seeking Rs 2 crore in damages—not for himself, but to donate to Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital to help cancer patients.
Beyond the personal hit, Wankhede stresses that the show damages faith in institutions battling drug trafficking and abuse. The Delhi High Court is set to hear the case soon, so we’ll keep an eye on how this Bollywood-legal clash unfolds.
