Pakistani security forces carried out an early morning raid in Balochistan’s Chagai district, killing two men in a fierce shootout, including a prominent former leader of the Baloch Students Organisation (BSO-Pajjar). The clash happened around 4 a.m. on Wednesday in the Dalbandin region and lasted about three hours, with heavy gunfire and explosions shaking the area.
Local residents in Chagai district woke up to nonstop shooting that continued until 7 a.m., pointing to intense fighting between the forces and people inside a targeted house. Officials confirmed that Zubair Baloch, the ex-chairman of BSO-Pajjar, and another man named Nasir died in the exchange. Security sources said the raid stemmed from intelligence tips about armed suspects in the spot. They added that the two men fired first on the troops, leading to a heated gun battle, and claimed Zubair Baloch took his own life during the chaos.
A third person, Jahanzaib, got arrested during the operation and is now in custody, according to reports from The Balochistan Post. Zubair Baloch had a big name in Baloch politics—he led BSO-Pajjar before shifting to a career in law, all while staying active in political circles. His death has sparked quick backlash, with many in Balochistan calling out Pakistani security operations for alleged extrajudicial killings and cracking down on activists and students.
Balochistan has faced ongoing tensions between the government and nationalist groups for years. Security agencies say these raids are key to fighting militancy and armed threats. But human rights activists push back, arguing that such actions often hit political figures and peaceful voices, making it harder for real dialogue.
