NFR operates 613 special train trips to accommodate festive rush

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has launched 48 special trains to keep the flow of passengers smooth during this year’s Diwali and Chhath Puja celebrations. Since September, these trains have run a total of 613 trips across the network.

The special services link key destinations—including Guwahati, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Patna, Kolkata, Amritsar, Mumbai, Bengaluru and many others—allowing people to visit famous shrines like the Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati. These temples attract lakhs of devotees and foreign tourists every year.

NFR runs the trains on a mix of daily, weekly and specific‑day schedules, depending on demand. The aim is to ease travel for millions heading to the Northeast, North Bengal and Bihar during the busy holiday season.

Passengers planning a trip should check the official railway website for up‑to‑date timings, stops and coach availability. This will help them book the right train and avoid last‑minute surprises.

With over 7,300 track kilometres under its control, the NFR serves the Northeastern states, seven districts in West Bengal and five districts in north Bihar. The extra trains should keep the holiday rush across the region as smooth as possible.
