Prime Minister Narendra Modi struck a sharp tone at a huge rally in Katihar on Monday, questioning why Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial candidate, seemed “ashamed” of using his father’s name. Modi said the people of Bihar understand the real meaning of politics better than what’s said on posters.
“Take a look at the RJD and Congress flyers,” Modi told the crowd. “A leader who once served as chief minister for years, yet whose picture has either faded or sits in a tiny corner on the poster. Even a binocular can’t spot him.” He didn’t name Lalu Prasad Yadav directly, the former Union Minister and ex‑Bihar chief minister, but the jab was clear. “His entire family is in elections. Why isn’t he visible? Why hide his father’s name? What are they hiding from the people here?” he asked.
The Prime Minister also attacked the RJD‑Congress alliance, calling it “appeasement politics” and accusing it of supporting infiltrators around Katihar and nearby districts. “The people of Bihar and the country have the first right to their resources,” Modi said. “I will not let anyone snatch them away. The RJD and Congress seem to favor ‘kitta’ (private weapons) and ‘kattarpanthi’ (fundamentalists). Whenever the BJP and NDA talk about removing infiltrators, this alliance defends those infiltrators.”
He went on to say the INDIA bloc has bowed to hardline pressure, pointing out its opposition to the Triple Talaq law and its attempts to undo the new Waqf Act. “They have surrendered to fundamentalists,” Modi warned. “Keep the RJD and Congress far from power in Bihar.”
The comments are especially relevant as Katihar sits close to the Bangladesh border and is part of Seemanchal, a region with a large Muslim population that can swing votes in districts such as Kishanganj, Purnea and Araria. Modi urged voters in Katihar to back all NDA candidates across the area.
Earlier in the week, the Prime Minister held another rally in Saharsa, promising development and stability under the NDA government.
