Filmfare Awards 2025: Laapataa Ladies clinches 13 awards; Alia, Abhishek and Kartik take home major awards

Mumbai, India – The 70th Filmfare Awards lit up Ahmedabad on Saturday night, drawing crowds to the EKA Arena by Kankaria Lake for a star‑studded celebration of Bollywood. Shah Rukh Khan, Karan Johar and Maniesh Paul stepped onto the stage as hosts, welcoming fans to an event that highlighted the biggest names and new talents in Hindi cinema.

Abhishek Bachchan and Kartik Aaryan shared the Best Actor (Male) trophy for their turns in I Want To Talk and Chandu Champion, respectively. Alia Bhatt took home the Best Actress award for her powerful performance in Jigra. The Critics Award for Best Actor went to Rajkummar Rao for Srikanth, while Pratibha Rannta won the Critics Award for Best Actress and also snagged Best Supporting Actress for Laapataa Ladies.

Debut stars and directors made a splash as well. Nitanshi Goel captured Best Debut Actress for Laapataa Ladies, and Lakshya earned Best Debut Actor (Male) for Kill. Upcoming directors Kunal Kemmu (Madgaon Express) and Aditya Suhas Jambhale (Article 370) were honored with Best Debut Director awards.

Laapataa Ladies dominated the ceremony, winning Best Film and Best Director (Kiran Rao). The film also secured Oscars for Best Screenplay, Best Story, Best Dialogue, and Best Music Album, thanks to the work of Sneha Desai, Aditya Dhar, Monal Thakkar and Ram Sampath. Arijit Singh sang the Best Playback Singer (Male) hit, and Madhubanti Bagchi’s vocals earned her the Best Playback Singer (Female) award for Stree 2.

Technical categories highlighted Kill as a standout: it won Best Action (Seayoung Oh and Parvez Shaikh), Best Sound Design (Subash Sahoo), Best Background Score (Ram Sampath), Best Editing (Shivkumar V. Panicker), Best Production Design (Mayur Sharma), Best Cinematography (Rafey Mehmood) and Best VFX (Redefine for Munjya). Bosco‑Caesar’s choreography for “Tauba Tauba” from Bad Newz took home Best Choreography, while Darshan Jalan was recognized for Best Costume.

Special honors included the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented posthumously to Zeenat Aman and Shyam Benegal, and the R.D. Burman Award for Emerging Talent in Music, given to Achint Thakkar for his work in Jigra and Mr & Mrs Mahi.

The Filmfare Awards 70th edition underscored Bollywood’s vibrant mix of fresh faces and seasoned icons, celebrating the films and talents that shaped the industry’s 2024 season.
