Assam has launched a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to dig into the sudden death of beloved singer and cultural star Zubeen Garg. The move comes as fans and the public grieve and call for clear answers about what happened.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement Wednesday after leading a key meeting with top police brass, including the Director General of Police, senior CID officers, and the Chief Secretary. He promised the people of Assam that the probe would leave “no stone unturned” and handpicked the “best officers from Assam Police” for the job. These experts will work independently with full integrity, he said.
Leading the SIT is Special DGP (CID) M.P. Gupta, with SSP (CM Vigilance) Rosie Kalita stepping in as the Chief Investigating Officer. The team pulls in additional talent like Additional SPs, Deputy SPs, Inspectors, and Sub-Inspectors from the CID and various districts. All of them commit to staying on board until the Zubeen Garg death investigation wraps up completely.
The focus stays on CID Police Station Case No. 18/2025, filed under sections 61(2)/105/106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Officials say the SIT must stick to tight deadlines and keep everything transparent from start to finish.
Speaking to reporters, Sarma stressed the government’s resolve: “In regard to the untimely death of our beloved Zubeen Garg, we will not spare anyone. The SIT has complete autonomy to investigate and will function with utmost professionalism.” He also shared that viscera samples from the late singer will head to the Central Forensic Laboratory in New Delhi for cutting-edge analysis.
Zubeen Garg’s passing has sparked huge emotions across Assam, where he’s not just a hit singer but also an actor, composer, and true ambassador for the state’s culture. Fans have flooded social media and streets with demands for a fair Zubeen Garg probe, and many see this SIT as the government’s strong response to deliver justice and calm the speculation.
Assam Police echoed the commitment in a statement, noting that the selected officers will handle the case with top-notch diligence right through to the end. As the public watches closely, this investigation could finally answer the big questions surrounding one of Assam’s biggest losses.
