Bengaluru’s roads are turning into a nightmare for drivers, with potholes causing chaos and even deadly accidents. On Wednesday, the Karnataka BJP ramped up the pressure on the Congress-led state government by organizing protests across the city and state, demanding better road fixes.
BJP workers and MLAs blocked major roads for an hour to highlight the “pothole menace” and crumbling infrastructure. In Bengaluru, hotspots like Yelahanka Old Town and Mahalakshmi Layout saw big turnouts, as party leaders slammed the government’s handling of road repairs.
BJP state president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra took a strong jab at Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who’s in charge of Bengaluru’s development. “Come to our protest site with a report on potholes everywhere—from city streets to the road to the Prime Minister’s residence,” Vijayendra said. He warned that public anger could “bury” the government in the very potholes it’s ignored.
In Yelahanka’s Kempegowda Ward, MLA S.R. Vishwanath led the charge, blocking roads and even launching a symbolic pothole-filling drive with party supporters. “Fill these potholes right now,” Vishwanath demanded, accusing the Congress of corruption and shoddy asphalting work that’s already led to crashes and deaths in his constituency.
Over in Mahalakshmi Layout near Kanteerava Studio, former MLA N.L. Narendrababu and Bengaluru North District President S. Harish joined workers in a road blockade. They called out the government’s neglect, pointing to Shivakumar’s own admission of 10,000 potholes in the city. “Stop hiding in AC offices—get out and save lives,” Narendrababu urged officials and engineers.
Harish went further, questioning the state’s finances. “Congress claims no money for pothole repairs in Bengaluru’s 28 assembly areas,” he said. He highlighted the Rs 1,100 crore released for fixes and demanded a full breakdown: “Which potholes got filled? Where did the money go?”
The BJP’s statewide push against poor Karnataka road infrastructure isn’t stopping. Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka plans to join protests in Basavanagudi, keeping the heat on for urgent pothole repairs and accountability.
