Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Telugu film star Ram Charan for helping launch the world’s first professional archery league, the Archery Premier League (APL).
In a meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, the PM thanked Charan, his wife Upasana Konidela and Anil Kamineni – the league’s chairman – for “popularising archery and helping countless young people.”
Modi posted the message on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. “Glad to have met you, Upasana and Anil Kamineni Garu. Your collective efforts to popularise archery are commendable and will benefit countless youngsters,” he wrote.
Ram Charan soon shared his excitement on social media. “Honoured to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the success of the world’s first Archery Premier League, led by Anil Kamineni Garu,” the actor said. “This is our small step to preserve archery’s legacy and promote it worldwide. Congratulations to all the athletes; we hope many more will join this incredible sport.”
When asked after the meeting, Charan said he’s proud to help promote India’s ancient sporting tradition. “Archery is a deep part of India’s culture,” he told reporters. “Through the APL, we aim to take it to international heights. India has immense talent, and the league will give these young athletes the platform they deserve.”
The trio also presented a Balaji idol to the PM on behalf of the charity Athamma & Mamaya, adding a spiritual touch to the event.
Under Anil Kamineni’s leadership, the Archery Premier League seeks to elevate the sport in India. It offers structured training, professional coaching and international exposure for promising archers. The league also focuses on grassroots development, creating clear pathways for young talent to compete worldwide.
With the APL, India is set to become a new power in world archery, giving thousands of young athletes the chance to shine on the global stage.
