Cause of death revealed for Wisconsin grad student who mysteriously vanished walking home from bar
The medical examiner’s report released Wednesday shed light on the fate of Eliotte Heinz, a 22‑year‑old graduate student from Wisconsin who vanished after a night out in La Crosse on July 20. The investigation determined that Eliotte drowned accidentally in the Mississippi River. Toxicology results showed she had alcohol in her system—a blood‑alcohol level of 0.193, more than twice the state limit—yet no drugs or other foul play markers were found. Police recovered footage of her walking near the waterfront at about 3:20 a.m., roughly an hour after leaving Bronco’s Bar downtown. Her family, grieving but determined to stay hopeful, later expressed their love for her while coping with the hard reality of her loss. The body was eventually located near Brownsville, Minnesota, and authorities confirmed there was no evidence of a crime.
