Indian youth reimagining traditional crafts for global markets: Giriraj Singh

New Delhi, Dec 13 (LatestNewsX) – Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh told a gather‑ing on Saturday that young Indians are now blending age‑old crafts with modern designs that resonate worldwide. He noted, while opening the “Crafted for the Future” showcase at the National Craft Museum, that the government is working hard to support artisans and help their work reach international markets.

The twenty‑fifth‑day event, part of National Handicrafts Week, will stay on‑site until 21 December 2025, and entrance is free for everyone. This third chapter of the “Weave the Future” series shifts focus to everyday material culture, underscoring the deep link between community, environment, and the objects that shape daily life.

By putting a spotlight on creators and material‑innovators from across India, the initiative demonstrates practices rooted in ecological harmony, regional identity, and profound material knowledge. Amrit Raj, District Commissioner for Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, added that safeguarding India’s craft heritage is not merely about nostalgia; it means recognising craft as a living, future‑shaping force.

Attendees can wander through immersive displays that map the paths of everyday resources, and browse a handpicked craft market that showcases artisans and collectives who use local and regenerative materials. The programme also offers daily film showings, live demonstrations, lively discussions about material origins, and hands‑on workshops steered by artisans and designers. The goal is to deepen the public’s grasp of craft‑driven ecological wisdom and its role in forging a sustainable future.
