A tragic hit-and-run crash in New Delhi claimed the lives of three family members, including a 10-year-old boy, late Sunday night near the Mukundpur flyover on the busy Outer Ring Road.
Officials reported that the victims—Mohammad Shahid, 60, his son Mohammad Faiz, 25, and Faiz’s young nephew—were riding a motorcycle home from Dwarka to North Delhi when disaster struck. A speeding car slammed into them from behind, sending all three tumbling onto the road. Moments later, another car allegedly ran over them, witnesses said.
Family members and bystanders told police that the two vehicles had been racing along the stretch when the collision happened. “The first car hit the motorcycle hard, and the second one crushed them after they fell,” one relative explained. Both drivers fled the scene, and authorities haven’t located them yet.
The three died instantly at the site. Police sent their bodies for postmortem at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri, and the Jahangirpuri police station is leading the investigation into this deadly Delhi hit-and-run.
A senior officer shared that teams are combing through CCTV footage from the Mukundpur flyover and surrounding areas of the Outer Ring Road to track down the cars. “We’re reviewing multiple cameras and have formed special teams to find those responsible,” the officer said.
This heartbreaking incident shines a light on Delhi’s growing problem with hit-and-run accidents, where reckless speeding on major roads like the Outer Ring Road keeps causing needless deaths. Delhi Police records show the corridor sees dozens of crashes each year, making it one of the city’s most dangerous routes.
Officers are urging anyone who saw the crash to step forward with tips to help catch the drivers. If you have information on this Outer Ring Road accident, contact the Jahangirpuri police station right away.
