Yemen’s Houthis claim attacks on ‘sensitive’ targets in Israel

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have stepped up their game in the ongoing conflict with Israel. On Tuesday, their military spokesman Yahya Saree announced via al-Masirah TV that they carried out two major operations. These targeted several sensitive sites near Jerusalem and in Eilat, including the Ramon Airport in southern Israel. Saree said the attacks fully hit their goals and were launched to back the Palestinian cause.

The Israeli military quickly responded, confirming they intercepted a Houthi missile fired that night. This came just hours after Israel struck senior Hamas leaders in Qatar. The missile launch set off warning sirens across Jerusalem, the Dead Sea area, and parts of the occupied West Bank, putting locals on high alert.

Earlier in the day, Israel’s air force also shot down a drone coming from Yemen over Eilat, the popular Red Sea resort town that’s become a frequent Houthi target. The Houthis, who hold sway over much of northern Yemen, have ramped up these drone and missile strikes ever since Israel killed several top Houthi officials in an airstrike on Sanaa back on August 28.

This isn’t new for the Houthis. Since November 2023, they’ve been firing at Israel repeatedly, claiming it’s all in solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s war in Gaza. Israel hasn’t stayed quiet either—they’ve hit back with airstrikes on Houthi-controlled spots like Sanaa and the key Red Sea port of Hodeidah.

As tensions boil over in the Middle East, these Yemen Houthi attacks on Israel highlight the growing web of regional conflicts. Keep an eye on updates as both sides continue their back-and-forth.
