Industrialisation essential for Bihar’s growth: Nitish Kumar

Patna, Dec 6 – Bihar’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, reminded people on Saturday that pushing large‑scale industrialisation is the key to supercharging the state’s economy and creating jobs.

Using data from the past twenty years of his leadership, he highlighted how Bihar has made great strides in infrastructure and industry. On his official X account, Kumar said, “Large-scale industrialisation is essential for rapid economic growth and employment generation in any state. The Bihar government has done considerable work in this direction.”

He noted that from 2005 to 2025, the number of industrial zones more than doubled—from 46 to 94—and the total industrial units grew from 1,674 to 3,500. Exports surged from ₹25 crore to a staggering ₹17,000 crore, while SMEs expanded from 72,000 to 3.5 lakh, and industrial output’s share of the state’s GSDP jumped from 5.4 % to over 21 %. “These figures reflect the government’s sustained efforts to promote industrial development,” he added.

Kumar also announced an ambitious plan for Bihar to become one of India’s top five investment‑friendly states. To this end, the Industries Department will organise investor forums across the nation and abroad. A five‑year investment roadmap aims to attract ₹50,000 crore, featuring initiatives such as streamlining business processes, creating five large food parks, building ten industrial parks and a hundred MSME parks, training 700,000 workers in industry‑relevant skills, setting up a dedicated MSME directorate, and boosting marketing and export support for local products.

Under the chief minister’s Entrepreneurship Scheme, 44,073 entrepreneurs have already received incentives, helping them launch businesses that generate local employment. “To drive high‑tech industrialisation, the state has formed top‑level committees to fast‑track the Defence Corridor, Semiconductor Manufacturing Park, global capability centre, Mega Tech City & Fintech City,” he said. “A vision to establish Bihar as a global back‑end hub and global workplace, plans are also underway to expand employment‑oriented activities in startups and new‑age sectors,” added Kumar.

The chief minister also mentioned that the 1,700‑acre Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Dobhi, Gaya, is close to completion and will soon open. “Additionally, 31 new industrial parks will be established across 29 districts. These parks will span 14,036 acres, include 10 sector‑specific parks such as textile and pharma, and a total of ₹26,000 crore will be invested in rapid industrial development,” he noted.

Highlighting the state’s improved infrastructure and utilities, the chief minister said that Bihar now boasts excellent road, rail, and air connectivity, a reliable power supply, and robust law and order. “We will ensure that the youth of Bihar are not forced to leave the state for employment,” he promised.
